Maybe there is community Flow. How does Flow translate? Joe has worked with some astounding athletic teams that had team Flow. Where it just clicked and worked. It’s not like they were all geniuses who were way above everybody else, but for some reason, the teams clicked, and they won Super Bowls. So maybe we can get to the kind of the guts of the matter concerning the intuitive nature of narrative.

Two months ago, we were talking about health care as the patient. If health care is the patient, and we treat a patient with holistic measures based on the gut. The gut’s microbiome has become one of the largest focuses now, where it never used to be even regarded as a part of our physiology, or how to restore health. If we’re looking at shifting a health care system, we have to look at the gut.

That’s awesome. I really got a lot out of this rich discussion around individual Flow, and sort of the trapping narratives that some people get into, and how a peak experience can become a trap, because you can’t reproduce it. There’s a constant sense of longing and loss. That might be the narrative. Or we re-experience it through virtual means, or some other means. Something close enough, perhaps, that you can re-experience those peak experiences without doing the exact same things.

I think it would be very interesting to consider what Flow looks like in the guts. So, when Bill G was in the Cascades, what was it like in his guts when he was climbing?

Just one final thought, since our understanding of neurobiology is more and more sophisticated, how far behind is the pharmaceutical industry in terms of offering us an effective Flow pill? When that’s available, is that a good idea?
Jeremy
That’s starting to sound like sci-fi.

Pills won’t do it because I truly believe you need to put in effort. If I may pick Joe’s brain, we’ve talked about individual Flow. Joe, you work with the Pittsburgh Steelers. I’m sure that you’ve run across, you know, in your dealings with Coach Chuck Knoll, the concept of team Flow and cooperation.
Joe
No question about it. And that’s the winning team. When everyone is in the same mental state, fewer mistakes, better performance, and better wins. No question about it.
Jeremy
Awesome. Well, thank you Joe for coming. I really appreciate it.
Joe
I learned a lot and applaud all of your work.
