Salus Health Care Forum November 2024

FYI. Salus might be another exception—in terms of a positive outcome regarding interaction between a God and human being. Not Greek, but Roman. Just so you know. I hate to butt in. However, after all, this is the Salus Group—and we are hoping for a positive outcome regarding health.

I’ve been impressed with the evidentiary-based publications coming out about how the triage chatbots are quickly replacing the nurse advice lines. They are much better received than the nurse advice lines because they don’t cut you off prematurely and are programmed by AI to provide empathy and understanding—as well as reasonable follow-up questions. I had an experience calling the nurse advice line and was very frustrated. I had wished I’d been talking to a chatbot because of the handoffs and the very transactional nature of chatbot interactions. There is typically no expression of sympathy on the part of real human beings. You know, nobody ever says, Bill, sorry you’re feeling that way. Is this distressing to you? Do you think you need attention now or is this something that could wait till tomorrow morning? Nobody ever asked a question in the real world about how I was feeling and how I was interpreting the situation. However, apparently, from all I’ve read, the AI-powered chatbots do a much better job than the human triage nurses. This is an illustration, I think, of some of the issues about which we’ve been talking.

We need to bring this forum to a close. I just have the image of physicians with their stethoscope actually providing a recording of what Scott has been talking about. The stethoscope provides a summary description about the patient. So instead of checking out what’s going on in their patient’s body, the physician is checking out what’s going on through AI in their patient’s psyche. So, Scott, when I see you with a stethoscope on, I know you have arrived fully as a real physician!
Anyway, this has been a wonderful forum. Thank you all very much.
