Yes, definitely. There’s some great test instruments out there. The one that I use the most, of course, is the quantitative EEG, which is really not a diagnostic tool for PTSD, depression, anxiety. It’s a diagnostic tool for dysregulation. So what are the brain wave patterns looking like? And how are they shifting post-operatively? Because they will shift with a long use of benzos—sometimes not even a long use—they shift with regular use of benzos, alcohol, CBD.
I mean, every drug that we put in our body, whether it’s unnecessary, evil, or not, is shifting our brain’s ability to function. And to what level? So the QEEG or the quantitative EEG doesn’t determine if they definitely can be aligned with this diagnostic criterion, because the diagnostic criteria is only that. It’s criteria. It’s a symptom cluster. We’re just trying to put people in categories. So, the DSM doesn’t have a lot of favor in our world, because what we’re looking at is where’s the brain really dysregulated? We don’t have to know what neural networks are not working? That’s the problem. It’s not that they’re having post-traumatic stress disorder, or that they’re having these triggers. But that would be a marker.

Are you saying perhaps that dysregulation underlies probably all three of these buckets? That this might be the early sign is EEG dysregulation? It’d be great. And that’s a marker I didn’t get trained in. I hear the behavioralists talk about dysregulation. I experience my own dysregulation now and then. So I have got insight into it now regarding how disruptive that can be. But that’s interesting. So, there are EEG findings that indicate dysregulation?
Gay
Yep.
Jeremy
Wow.

Absolutely. And if you’re doing Quantitative EEG, okay. I am advantaged where I just did one on a woman who’s about ready to undergo surgery. She’s having some of her colon removed. So I’m hoping they’re going to let me do one post-surgical. Although she might say no, because it’s expensive to do. But it’d be so great just to have that kind of data about what’s changed in her brain from two weeks ago and then after her surgery next week. I’d love it if she’d let me do it. So I’m going to approach it. We will definitely see the dysregulation. And then depending on how many hours she’s out from surgery, obviously it’s going to be a different story.
Jeremy
Got it. Well, there might be a person that comes in very dysregulated.
Gay
Yep.
Jeremy
And then gets under anesthesia and bounces off the wall of dysregulation.
